NatCen Learning offers a range of opportunities for new and experienced researchers to gain new skills and develop fresh perspectives on social research methods and practice. Events are delivered by applied researchers with years of experience of conducting high quality research in a wide range of social policy areas. The annual programme of learning events includes day workshops and short courses. NatCen is currently taking bookings for their Spring 2010 events and have a few places left on the remaining courses.
Introduction to FrameWork software for qualitative data analysis - various dates - London
Qualitative research design - 24/25 Feb - London
Develop a clear understanding of the principles and practice of high quality, rigorous research design for qualitative studies. This two day course can equip you with all the skills you need to design qualitative research projects and includes topics such as covers developing your research objectives, qualitative sampling and making decisions about data collection methods. A general familiarity with qualitative research methods is assumed, but it is not necessary to have experience of using these methods.
Communicating research to policy & practice - 09 Mar - London
Gain the knowledge and tools to communicate your research to policy and practice audiences. On this day course you can learn how to relate to your audiences, exploit the strengths of different media, and create persuasive messages for them.
Cognitive interviewing skills - 17/18 Mar - London
Providing you with a thorough grounding in cognitive question testing methods, this two day course also includes practical experience in cognitive interviewing skills and explores the analysis and reporting of cognitive interview data.
Conducting research with children & young people - 10/11 May - Stirling University, Scotland
The perspectives of children and young people have been of keen interest to social researchers for some years; this two-day course introduces you to the key theoretical and methodological issues involved in conducting social research with children and young people. You will be better equipped with the core tools for conducting high quality research in this area.
Formulating policy recommendations - 11 May - London
A day course enabling you to acquire the tools and techniques for drawing effective policy recommendations from your research findings.
