The Sociology At Work website is a not-for-profit group run by volunteers – and we can definitely use more help.  If you are interested in becoming involved in running the website, or if you have any material that you think might be useful, please get in contact with us.  We require resources, forum moderators, newsletter editors and reviewers.

• Resources: any pictures, photos, research reports, methods papers, issues-related articles (whether refereed or not), newspaper columns that you have written and which you would like to make available to a wider public via our website.  These resources can be anything you have written on your research or anything you think might be of relevance to other applied sociologists. Please send whatever you would like to share with the world!  All documents will be fully credited to you, or where relevant, your organisation/advocacy network/etc. Please ensure that you are not in breach of copyright, but know that we will include all the proper credits to the author, as well as the original source (where relevant).

• Forum moderators: we need volunteers who will regularly log into the forums to contribute to discussions where necessary, and if relevant, to ensure that any inappropriate discussions are discouraged/stopped.  We encourage healthy debate about any and all topics. Resolution of disagreements of opinion are the responsibility of individual members entering into a debate, however we do not condone inflammatory comments that incite hatred, intolerance or violence to any public/s, or which disintegrate into personal attacks that make our members feel in any way unsafe. This is fundamentally common sense stuff, as we are not about censorship.

• Newsletter editors: we require volunteers to help manage the Sociology At Work newsletter. This newsletter will act as a professional publication which encourages shorter peer-referred articles, and more informal papers, as well as general interest articles that are not peer-reviewed. The newsletter hopes to attract a wide range of papers of relevance to the work, lives and interests of applied sociologists.  This includes reflections on career trajectory, advice columns, issues-based papers, critical pieces on specific pieces of research, ‘getting to know our members’ pieces, and anything else that our members wish to submit.  This publication will work differently to most other academic publications, which seem to operate more with a ‘gate-keeping’ mentality.  Instead, we wish to include a diverse range of papers, and the editorial team and reviewers will work to support the inclusion of all submissions, particularly by early career sociologists, students, and sociologists who might not necessarily have a (public) publication profile.  This publication will be made available free to all members and the wider public, and so its aims are to represent the myriad of styles, skills and experiences of applied sociologists.  It is therefore a forum to advance public sociology and to give a ‘voice’ to sociologists who are not usually known to the outside world, or to our colleagues within academia.

• Newsletter reviewers: we would extend a call out to anyone who would be willing to act as a reviewer for the peer-refereed papers that are submitted to the Sociology At Work newsletter.
