On the 18th of July, the world will celebrate Nelson Mandela Day. Mandela has been hospitalised for over two weeks. The BBC reports today that the human rights leader and Former President of South Africa is in a stable but still critical condition.

In honour of the upcoming celebration of his life and courage, UNICEF released a video about the many names of Mandela: Rolihlahla, Mandela’s birth name ( isiXhosa for “pulling the branch of a tree”, and colloquially it means “troublemaker), Tata (isiXhosa for “Father”), Khulu (“Great”), and Madiba, which is Mandela’s clan name (this was also the name of a Thembu chief who ruled in the Transkei in the 18th century). Watch the video below to earn more about Mandela’s name and read more information from The Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory.
