The 2012 World Development Report includes interesting analysis about gender outcomes around the world. While there are there now more girls enrolled at schools in 45 developing countries, more women die from childbirth in developing countries like Afghanistan, Somalia, Nigeria and Pakistan in comparison to developed nations in Europe. There are now more women in the paid workforce, but women earn 50-80 percent less than men in some countries such as Georgia, Sri Lanka and Nigeria. The report focuses on the formal institutions that maintain gender inequality, including the economy and the law, as well as informal social processes.
