A report on social science methodologies identifies four areas of innovation that will open up employment opportunities: technological methods, interdisciplinary methods, applied sociology skills, and consultancy. These methods will also help us contribute towards positive social change.
The relevance to our applied sociology community are as follows:
- Technological methods, such as visual sociology and digital/online sociology
- Interdisciplinary methods, especially involving ethnography.
- Applied sociological skills: “This is observed in participatory methods, action research, professional work, social and consultancy work.”
- Consultancy amongst applied sociologists with institutional affiliation to universities (for example Adjunct Research Fellows).
