Sociology student and Fullbright Scholar, Jesse Fenichel, worked as a “temp attorney” over the summers before heading to the Philippines to study the ever-growing market for outsourcing American legal work overseas. The Philippines and India are two key nations where much of the outsourced work is happening.
As part of his PhD dissertation, Fenichel will study the impact of this work on both the American and Philippines legal systems. Fenichel noted that Indian lawyers drafted a brief for the Supreme Court in 2005. His work will include interviews with lawyers and managers. He will also investigate the exploitation of legal professionals in developing nations, and the diminishing work for lawyers in the United States.
